Relationship between diffusion, self-diffusion and viscosity

چکیده

We investigate the experimental limits of validity of the Stokes–Einstein equation. There is an important difference between diffusion and self-diffusion. The experimental evidences show, that in the case of selfdiffusion the product Dg/T is constant and the Stokes–Einstein equation is still valid. On the other hand, comparison of existing experimental data, on viscosity g and diffusion coefficients D, of small, fast moving ions shows unambiguously that the product Dg/T depends strongly on temperature T. The temperature dependence of diffusion coefficient declines from that of viscosity. Therefore, the Stokes–Einstein equation is not valid in for fast moving ions. 2009 Elsevier B.V. Shear viscosity and diffusion in liquid MgSiO3: Transport properties and implications for terrestrial planet magma oceans

Molecular dynamics simulations using a pair-wise additive potential are implemented to investigate self-diffusion (Mg, Si, and O) and shear viscosity of liquid MgSiO3 in the density-temperaturepressure range 2350–5300 kg/m3, 2500–5000 K, and 0–140 GPa, respectively. Self-diffusivity and shear viscosity are described by modified Arrhenian expressions, which feature a pressure-dependent activatio...

Simultaneous free-volume modeling of the self-diffusion coefficient and dynamic viscosity at high pressure.

In this work, a simultaneous modeling of the self-diffusion coefficient and the dynamic viscosity is presented. In the microstructural theory these two quantities are governed by the same friction coefficient related to the mobility of the molecule. A recent free-volume model, already successfully applied to dynamic viscosity, has been considered and generalized. In this generalized model the c...

Relation between self-diffusion and viscosity in dense liquids: new experimental results from electrostatic levitation.

By using the technique of electrostatic levitation, the Ni self-diffusion, density, and viscosity of liquid Zr(64)Ni(36) have been measured in situ with high precision and accuracy. The inverse of the viscosity, η, measured via the oscillating drop technique, and the self-diffusion coefficient D, obtained from quasielastic neutron scattering experiments, exhibit the same temperature dependence ...

Pressure and temperature dependence of viscosity and diffusion coefficients of a glassy binary mixture

Extensive isothermal-isobaric ~NPT! molecular dynamics simulations at many different temperatures and pressures have been carried out in the well-known Kob–Andersen binary mixture model to monitor the effect of pressure ~P! and temperature ~T! on the dynamic properties such as the viscosity (h) and the self-diffusion (Di) coefficients of the binary system. The following results have been obtain...

Effects of Viscosity on a Thick Circular Plate in Thermoelastic Diffusion Medium

The problem treated here is to determinethe viscosity effect on stresses, temperature change and chemical potential in a circular plate. The mathematical formulation is applied to two theories of thermoelastic diffusion developed by Sherief et al. [27] with one relaxation time and Kumar and Kansal [9]with two relaxation times. Laplace and Hankel transform techniques are used to obtain the expre...
